Monitoring Activities Of Daily Living ADL For Seniors
Seniors who wish to live independently in their own homes may require monitoring in their ability to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
ADLs are basic tasks that are necessary for daily self-care and independent living. Here are some examples of ADLs for seniors:
- Personal Hygiene: This includes tasks such as bathing, grooming, and oral care.
- Dressing: This includes tasks such as selecting and putting on appropriate clothing and footwear.
- Eating: This includes tasks such as preparing food, feeding oneself, and drinking.
- Liquids: Hydration is very important for seniors, and dehydration can easily occur.
- Mobility: This includes tasks such as walking, standing, and getting in and out of chairs.
- Continence Management: This includes tasks related to controlling bladder and bowel movements.
- Toileting: This includes tasks related to using the toilet and cleaning oneself after toileting.
- Housekeeping: This includes tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and grocery shopping.
- Cooking: This includes tasks related to meal planning, preparation, and cleanup.
- Medication Management: This includes tasks related to taking medications as prescribed, filling prescriptions, and managing medications.
- Transportation: This includes tasks such as driving, using public transportation, or arranging transportation to appointments.
- Financial Management: This includes tasks such as managing finances, paying bills, and balancing a checkbook.
In addition to ADLs, there are also Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs), which are more complex tasks that are necessary for independent living. Here are some examples of IADLs:
